Mardi Gras 2014

All members present at the celebration of Mardi Gras on March 8 want to thank Evelyne and Strother Purdy for their warm welcome.  We also thank Renée David for the delicious food.  It was a great party where everyone had fun.

Sunday, January 26: M. Patrice Tassy (second from left in picture) is surrounded by members of the audience after presenting his talk in French about the life of contemporary French composer and singer, Charles Aznavour, whose musical career has spanned seven decades.  The presentation included audio recording and copies of the French lyrics for everyone to follow.  Patrice will return to France in March where he lives and works as a disc jockey on a French radio station.   The large audience found the program to be informative and fun.

On Monday, October 21, Denis Niez, owner of the acclaimed Ovens of France, welcomed more than 25 members and guests of Alliance Franēaise of Northwestern Connecticut for a genuine taste of France at his Middlebury store.
The evening included delectable pastries and fresh coffee while Denis, chef pātissier par excellence, conversed in French about his background, training and career in France, Switzerland and the U.S. Ovens of France opened its Woodbury store in 1997 and later opened a store in Middlebury, bringing the finest quality bakery creations to the area. Denis described for us the proper six-hour process of breadmaking that begins before dawn at Ovens of France, and joked that by noon he is ready to sleep. Everyone enjoyed this exclusive event at Ovens of France and purchased superb quiche, pastries, cookies and breads to take home.
